L’Oréal Professional Products Division is a supporter of initiatives that are driving sustainability
Why are you supporting the Recycle My Salon scheme?
L’Oréal Professional Products Division is a supporter of initiatives that are driving sustainability and that can have a positive impact within the professional hair industry and the Recycle My Salon programme is a great example of this in helping to tackle the challenge of the sustainable management of waste. L’Oréal Professional Products also has a dedicated programme, ‘Hairstylists for the Future’ to help salons on their sustainable journey.
What difference do you think recycling used aluminium colour tubes and used hair foils will make?
The programme has the potential to make a great difference. Aluminium can be re-used again and again, almost indefinitely - and is one of the few materials that is genuinely 100% recyclable. It’s possible that one day society can completely rely on recycled aluminium, so as an industry leader, we want to support initiatives that provide salons and stylists with a solution for a greater positive impact.
Does your organisation have a sustainability program in place?
Absolutely, very early on, L’Oréal became aware of the need to respond to environmental challenges, and it is at the heart of L’Oréal’s priorities. We formalised our commitments in 2013 with our ‘Sharing Beauty With All’ programme outlining our ambitions towards 2020 . L’Oréal has now taken the next steps in its efforts by launching ‘L’Oréal for the Future’, its 2030 sustainability commitments to ensure activities are respectful of planetary boundaries. L’Oréal is one of the only companies to be awarded a triple ‘A’ rating by the Carbon Disclosure Project for 6 years in a row for environmental leadership in tackling climate change, ensuring water security and protecting forests.
L’Oréal Professional Products Division works hand in hand with salons and stylists to educate and encourage sustainable change within the industry. The launch of the dedicated sustainability programme ‘Hairstylists for the Future’ supports professionals to take their sustainable activity further with advice and toolkits that can be accessed through L’Oréal Access, a 24/7 online learning platform.
The programme is based on three commitments, Managing Water Sustainably, Preserving Natural Resources and Fighting Climate Change, helping salons and stylists to make changes for a greater positive impact and empowering all salons and stylists to create professional hair beauty that moves the world and nurtures the planet.
Are you seeing progress in the industry in terms of sustainability?
Awareness is growing and it will take salons and stylists time to embark on their sustainable journey, step by step. The L’Oréal Professional Products Division ‘Hairstylists for the Future’ programme aims to support salons and stylists wherever they are on their journey with education and guidance on how to evolve. Everyone has a role to play in contributing to the bigger picture of protecting our planet and society.
